Family Safaris in Africa

A family safari is the trip children talk about for years, and the one parents are quietly surprised by: no screens, early nights, and a day shaped by what the animals are doing. Safari Continents Travel builds family routes from camps that take children, with shorter transfers and lodges that have a pool for the hot middle of the day.

The published rate on each route is per person, and children pay the same per-person rate as adults; there is no separate child fare on this site. Children under 12 are welcome on the routes listed here, but individual camps set their own minimum ages for game drives and walks, so tell us everyone's ages when you ask for a quote and we confirm the fit camp by camp.

South Africa is the easiest first family safari. The Kruger and its private reserves are a short flight from Johannesburg, Cape Town adds penguins, a cable car and beaches, and the Garden Route and the Eastern Cape reserves give older children a road trip. Namibia suits families who like driving, with dunes to climb at Sossusvlei and desert elephants to look for in Damaraland. Botswana and Victoria Falls are a strong choice for teenagers.

In East Africa, Kenya's Masai Mara and the conservancies around it pair well with a few nights on the Indian Ocean coast, and Tanzania's northern circuit lets a family follow the migration herds and stand on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. A beach finish in Zanzibar, Mauritius or the Seychelles gives everyone a rest before the flight home.
