Why go
A walking safari turns the volume down and the senses up. On foot you notice the tracks, the dung, the birds and the wind, and when you do meet an elephant you meet it on its terms. Zambia's South Luangwa is where this way of travelling was refined, and Safari Continents Travel's walking routes are the Zambia and Zimbabwe itineraries where a guided walk is part of the plan.
Walks are led by a licensed guide with an armed scout, last two to four hours in the cool of the morning, and move at the pace of whatever is interesting. You need to be able to walk a few kilometres on uneven ground. Game drives still fill the afternoons and evenings, and most camps mix the two across a stay.
In Southern Africa, South Luangwa's bush camps are the classic, the Lower Zambezi adds canoeing between walks, Zimbabwe's Mana Pools is one of the few parks where walking is allowed almost everywhere, and Hwange's concessions put you on foot among the elephant herds.
Walking is more restricted in East Africa's national parks, but Kenya's private conservancies around the Masai Mara allow it, and Tanzania's Tarangire and the highlands around Ngorongoro have camps where a morning on foot is part of the week.

A walking day is a guided walk in the park named on that stay. It is not a self-guided hike.
Canoe days in the same spirit
Lower Zambezi and similar stays sometimes put you on the water. The day text says which mornings those are.
Drives still happen
A walking route is rarely only walking. Full safari days that list drives still include them.
