Family Safari Advice
How to make a safari work for children, from the youngest to the ones who think they are too old for it.
Family travel advice
For health questions, a travel clinic has the final word. For visas, check the embassy of each country on the route.

1.Ages and camp rules
Children under 12 are welcome on the routes listed here, but every camp sets its own minimum age for game drives, walks and boats. Some take toddlers; some start at six, eight or twelve. Tell us everyone's ages on the quote and we confirm camp by camp.
2.Choosing where to go
South Africa is the easiest first family safari: short flights, good roads, malaria-free reserves in the Eastern Cape and Madikwe, and Cape Town for the days off. Kenya and Tanzania suit families who want the big herds and can manage longer travel days. Namibia is a good road trip for children who like deserts and space.
Travel by month3.Malaria and vaccinations
A travel clinic should see the whole family a few weeks before departure. Children's prophylaxis is dosed by weight, and some options are not suitable for the youngest. The malaria-free routes exist for exactly this reason.
4.The daily rhythm
Game drives are early and can be three hours long. Many camps run shorter drives for families, or a children's programme while adults go out. Build in a beach or a pool at the end: the last three nights on the coast are usually the ones the children remember.
5.Pricing for families
The published rate is per person, and children pay the same per-person rate as adults; there is no separate child fare on this site. Family rooms and interleading tents are confirmed on the quote. A quote comes before any payment.

Quick facts
A family safari on this site is a route that already allows children, with drives and camps a mixed group can use. The same per-person rate applies to adults and children. The quote is the place to say how old everyone is.
Children under 12 are welcome
That line is on the trip pages. A camp that cannot take a particular age is something the quote has to confirm, not something the listing can guess.
Shorter days where the stay allows it
Family filters pick routes whose stays are lodges and camps rather than a march of one-night stops. The day text still says what that camp actually offers.
One rate for each person
There is no separate child fare in the published price. The total is the per-person rate times the number of people travelling.
A beach finish is optional
Some family routes end on the coast. If you want that, it has to be on the quote. It is not added silently.
What every trip on this site includes
- Published rates are per person sharing, in US dollars, shown in the currency you choose while browsing.
- Nights, meals and the activities named on each stay are inside the rate. International flights, visas, insurance, tips and unlisted drinks are not.
- No single-room supplement is charged, and children pay the same per-person rate as adults.
- Wildlife sightings are never promised. Guides, parks and seasons are chosen to give the best chance; the animals decide the rest.
- Gorilla itineraries include one permit per person per trek unless the page says two.
- A written quote comes first. Nothing is booked and nothing is paid until you accept it.
